Roc City Rib Fest 2016


Roc City Rib Fest, Rochester’s Only Premier BBQ and Music Festival, is gearing up for another “don’t miss” event on Memorial Day Weekend at Genesee Valley Park.

Roc City Rib Fest kicks off Friday night, May 27th and runs through Monday, May 30th. The entry fee into the festival is $5 for adults and a portion of the proceeds benefits The Golisano Children’s Hospital. Children under 12 years of age are free. Parking is also free at the University of Rochester Parking Lot.

If you enjoy live music and eating great BBQ, or just looking for an exciting and unique way to spend Memorial Day with your family or close friends – you will not want to miss this event!

And don’t miss our third annual Food Truck Throwdown – Friday Night Only.

Memorial Day Chicken BBQ and Bakesale

The Memorial Day Chicken BBQ and Bake Sale is sponsored by Bloomfield's American Heritage Girls Troop NY0024. The BBQ and Bake Sale starts immediately after Bloomfield's parade and memorial service and will go until 1:30 or sold out. The location is the COngregational Church parking lot, across from Elton Park in BLoomfield. THe price is $9 presale from any American Heritage girl or $10 on Memorial Day. Price includes a half chicken, salt potatoes coleslaw and a roll, by King's Catering. Veterans get a free cookie!

Classic Car Show at Seneca Lake!

The American Legion Post 396 in Geneva, NY will host on its grounds overlooking beautiful Seneca Lake a Classic Car Show. The event will take place on Saturday 11 June 2016 (12 June rain date). Many of the area car clubs have been notified and owners will bring their prize winning classic cars to be displayed. Car show is opened to all classic cars both foreign and domestic. There will be a pancake breakfast from 8AM-11AM, inside the dining hall welcoming both registered car owners and spectators with their families. Later in the day from 11AM there will be hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage and refreshments to enjoy as well. There will be raffles, music, and a photographer to take a photo of your car. All proceeds will benefit American Legion Post 396. Spectators are free, car owners must register at the gate or call the American Legion for a registration form 315-789-5165. As this is a family event, playground is available for children, don’t miss this event, register your classic car now!

American Cancer Society's Celebrate Hope Gala

The American Cancer Society's Celebrate Hope Gala will be held at Monroe Golf Club on June 4th. There will be food, auction items and a great way to meet new people. The proceeds for this event will be going to the Golisano Hope Lodge which houses cancer patients and their care takers free of charge while they are undergoing treatment in Rochester, NY.

Dreams From Drake Annual Birthday Bash Fundraiser

Enjoy two jam-packed hours of all-things kids and family at the third annual Dreams from Drake Birthday Bash featuring Cinderella, her Fairy Godmother, Snow White, and an American Hero! This year, we've also added Gamin' Ride, The Ultimate Mobile Video Game Theater Party, a mini excavator for kids to explore, free gourmet cotton candy, a magician, DJ, and the Monroe County Sheriff's Department will be on hand to issue Operation SAFE CHILD photo ID cards. The event also features kid favorites such as bounce houses, dozens of crafts and games, face painting, fire trucks, balloon animals, the Zoomobile, t-shirt decorating, visits from local area mascots, and so much more. All proceeds benefit Dreams from Drake, a nonprofit dedicated to providing numerous healing services to children and teens in the Greater Rochester area who are suffering the loss of a sibling or parent. Distinguished Male Cooks Event

On Sunday, June 26, 2016 the Urban League of Rochester will be hosting the 26th Annual Distinguished Male Cooks event, sponsored by the Urban League Guild. The event will be held at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center, and will run from 3:00pm – 6:00pm. Forty of our areas finest male cooks will be creating delicious samples of their most signature dishes. Proceeds from this fun, family event benefit Urban League programs, such as Project Achieve and Project Ready, which are designed to prepare African-American students who are transitioning from middle school to high school and from high school to college. The programs engage students in curriculum that prepares them academically, socially, and culturally for higher education. The event will also support the Black Scholars Endowment Fund, which provides financial assistance to Urban League Black Scholars who are pursuing higher education. Three Cancer Charities Collaborate on the Inaugural Kick Cancer 15K Race Series

Rochester, NY – 13thirty Cancer Connect, Anna’s Wish and Christopher’s Challenge are proud to announce a new collaborative race series.  Throughout the 2016 racing season, the three organizations will offer a discounted rate to runners participating in all three races.  The three individual 5K races will create the Kick Cancer 15K Race Series.  A special prize will be given to runners completing the series. As leaders in the field of adolescent and young adult cancer, 13thirty Cancer Connect proposed this unique series to other community cancer organizations in order to better leverage our community resources.  Anna’s Wish and Christopher’s Challenge shared the excitement and the Kick Cancer 15K Race Series materialized.  With participation at each 5K expected to increase, awareness will be heightened and the vision of a world without cancer will be clearer.  “We are all working toward the same goal,” said Lauren Spiker, Executive Director and Founder of 13thirty. “Together, we increase our impact.”The 4th Annual 13thirty Bandana Bolt 5K will take place in Seneca Park on Sunday, May 15, 2016; the 4th Annual Anna’s Wish 5K will take place in Black Creek Park on Sunday, June 19, 2016; Christopher’s Challenge 5K will take place in Webster Park on Sunday, August 14, 2016, the final leg of the Kick Cancer 15K Race Series. Our organizations welcome all Rochester area runners to join us as we continue to work toward a world without cancer. Catholic Family Center is holding its 29th Annual Gaffney Memorial Golf Tournament Monday August 15, 2016 at Irondequoit Country Club. This Charity Tournament directly supports services for more than 32,000 of our neighbors in the greater Rochester community regardless of their religions or ethic background.
